JobDescription:

Applies principles of cost accounting to conduct studies whichprovide detailed cost information not supplied by generalaccounting systems: Plans study and collects data to determinecosts of business activity, such as raw material purchases,inventory, and labor. Analyzes data obtained and records results,using computer. Analyzes changes in product design, raw materials,manufacturing methods, or services provided, to determine effectson costs. Analyzes actual manufacturing costs and prepares periodicreport comparing standard costs to actual production costs.Provides management with reports specifying and comparing factorsaffecting prices and profitability of products or services. Maydevelop and install manual or computer-based cost accountingsystem. May specialize in analyzing costs relating to publicutility rate schedule and be designated Rate Engineer . May specialize in appraisal and evaluation of real propertyor equipment for sale, acquisition, or tax purposes for publicutility and be designated Valuation Engineer .
